La Rochepot is a worthy representative of the canton of Nolay. For many years, it was known as La Roche-Nolay. The site of La Rochepot has been occupied since prehistoric times. Its strategic location, overlooking the main roads, has been favored by the authorities since the Celts and Romans, hence the succession of fortified buildings on its heights. The town was a checkpoint on the famous tin route linking northern and southern Europe. In addition to its Gallo-Roman remains, the town boasts a 12th-century Romanesque church and a château, one of the most remarkable in Burgundy.
