Santa Lucía is located north of the department of Canelones (11 km), on the edge of the eponymous Río, and 50 km from Montevideo. Its population is 18 000. This small seaside resort has preserved its natural beauty, which does not end up enticing the Bourgeoisie of Montevideo. Be aware that this is the country's first seaside resort: the first hotel was built in 1872; the city was the summer destination of the Uruguayan president Máximo Santos in the 1880 s. You can stay at the campsite, in bungalows or in the hotel (little choice).
