Located on the east coast of the Isle of Pines, Oro Bay is best known for its "natural swimming pool" which is one of the most emblematic sites in all of New Caledonia. It is surely to see this site that you came to this wonderful island. It is also here that Le Meridien, the only luxury hotel on the island and a true haven of peace in this sumptuous landscape that combines columnar pines, tumultuous ocean and crystal clear lagoon, has made its home. But beyond the tourist aspect, the place is also a legendary place for the island tribe of the Kunié, who consider this bay to be sacred, as it is said to house part of the burial grounds of their ancestors. This is the reason for its name, since in the local language Oro means "heart".
