The southern half of the Nxai and Makgadikgadi Pans National Park covers 4,900 km² and is mainly composed of a succession of minor depressions gradually leading, in its southeast, to the white vastness of Ntwetwe Pan. Apart from the clay basins, the park consists of vast savannah plains, covered with denser vegetation: palm trees in the north-east, thorny in the west, and riverine forests along the Boteti River, which forms the western boundary of the park. For those seeking to venture into plains of moonscape, it is best to stay in Ntwetwe or Sowa, outside the national park.
