Covering an area of approximately 2,600 km², Nxai Pans consists of several sections: Nxai Pan itself, Kgama Kgama Pan and Kudiakam Pan to the south, which includes Baines Baobab. All were once salt lakes. In addition to some phenomenal baobab trees, there are large grassy areas with small clusters of shrubs that attract a large number of animals. The most impressive stretches are those of Nxai and Kgama Kgama. This part is one of the most accessible areas of the Makgadikgadi, only 50 km from the Nata-Maun road. The best time to visit is from December to July.
