Driving through the village of Pioneer is as quick as a sneeze. And chances are you won't run into many people in this town of just over 100. Aside from the Consolidated Grain and Barge Co. grain elevators, Jones's Hardware Store and the Baptist Church, there is not much to see. However, a little further south is the Poverty Point World Heritage Site, not only the only point of interest in the area, but also a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of archaeological discoveries that have uncovered 3,400 years of human presence on the site.
