The small village of Nimaj has a population of 6,000 and a charming medieval atmosphere. Developed in a circle around its fort, one can experience the traditional village life. It came under the rule of the kingdom of Jodhpur in the 16th century, ruled by one of the grandsons of Jodha Singh, the founder of Jodhpur. In 1708, the village became a thakurate and since then the lineage of the thakurs of Nimaj has never been interrupted. The palace was converted into a hotel. But it is more likely by staying at RAAS Chhatrasagar, a superb luxury camp set up on a dam, that you will get to Nimaj.
