Located in the Isefjord, this island covers 14 km². It can be reached by ferry from Holbaek. During the Viking era, it was called Warthærø "the island with the guard post". It was a strategic observation point to watch over ships in transit. Nowadays, Orø is a vacation destination for families and all nature lovers. It will appeal to fishermen and birdwatchers as well as to budding archaeologists and fossil hunters. The lucky ones may even see seals. The beach at Nørrestænge is a great place for children to swim. Sailing and kayaking enthusiasts: the place is ideal.
