Epoisses is associated with its round cheese, with an unrivalled aroma, with a worldwide reputation. Epoisses is also a superb castle, fortifications, a church, an old dovecote and a charming village. At the meeting point of the Tonnerrois and Morvan regions, commercial and craft activities developed early on. At the end of the Middle Ages, Epoisses supplied salt to Dijon. Life was prosperous, punctuated by the noise of the tools of the blacksmiths and coopers. Cistercian monks settled here in the 16th century and legend has it that they created Epoisses. In the 19th century, its reputation spread from Marseille to Paris! The Berthaut family perpetuates this know-how with brio.
