It was in Xépénéhé, or Chépénéhé, which means "arrival of ships" in Drehu, that the trade in sandalwood between New Caledonia, Australia and China began in 1842. Still renowned for the quality of its anchorage, the village now welcomes many cruise passengers who disembark for the day to visit the Wetr district. The bays of Jinek and Sandalwood are particularly impressive, as are the cliffs of Jokin in the north.
