38 km south-west of Lugo, this municipality of about 800 inhabitants with modern architecture has several shops, bars and restaurants. It is crossed by the Camino francés and is one of the last stages before reaching Santiago. Former residence of the Visigothic king Witiza in the 8th century, it was then the preferred place of residence of the Galician nobility. Some monuments stand out, such as Pambre Castle, a 14th century fortress, whose legend says that the walls were built in just one night. Also not to be missed is the church of San Tirso, restored in 1955, which incorporates a 12th-century Romanesque doorway.
