San Juan de Ortega looks like one of those sleepy little villages that dot the road to Santiago, and that only the presence of pilgrims livens up in summer. And yet, this hamlet with a population of barely 20 inhabitants has an undeniable charm. This is thanks to an interesting religious heritage represented by the monastery of San Juan de Ortega. Unique for its wooded environment as well as for its particular architecture, the monastery today serves exclusively as a place of welcome for pilgrims of the Camino. The interesting pink marble cloister adjacent to the refuge is noteworthy. The village also has a bar.
