The name "Penitente" refers to the prayer-like curved shape of the mountain that overlooks the waterfall, which is about 60 meters high and feeds a circular natural pool. Although the waterfall is not particularly spectacular, the surrounding area offers beautiful natural landscapes that are worth exploring. Despite the construction of a concrete lookout and a restaurant that have somewhat altered the site, Salto del Penitente remains a popular tourist destination for nature lovers and hikers. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities on site such as rock climbing, rappelling, zip lining (189 and 195 meters long), horseback riding and hiking. The park also has bike paths and bikes for rent. For those wishing to extend their stay, shelters with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities are available in the park. Camping sites are also available in the native forest, equipped with ground stoves, showers and shared bathrooms (no electricity). Pets are allowed. To get there, follow Ruta 8 east from Minas and turn right at km 124 (sign), or continue for 8 km after turning right at km 135. The park is open year-round, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with an entrance fee of $50 per person, payable only in cash.
