This natural reserve is located in the extreme south of the Argentinean mainland Patagonia. In 1584, Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa founded a colony there, called Nombre de Jesus, which did not resist to the rigorous climate. The English corsair Cavendish, finding only a handful of survivors, gave the site the name of Port Famine. Three centuries later, gold fever took hold of this corner of the world. However, the prospectors who settled there had to abandon the site because of the bad weather conditions. Not easy to make a place for yourself! But once arrived, the traveler will be rewarded by the 300 000 Magellanic penguins that live there!
