Talampaya Park, created in 1975, has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It represents an amazing geological formation, which is a must-see if you travel between Mendoza and Tucumán. Important sedimentary deposits from the paleontological era (fossilized dinosaurs), prehistoric (petroglyphs on the rocks of the canyon) or simply mineral (canyons with vertiginous walls almost 150 meters high) are worth the detour. Talampaya means in the Kakan language (from the Pazioca and Calchaqui ethnic groups of northwestern Argentina) " el río seco del tala", meaning "the dry river of the tala", a common tree in the region.
