A small town located in the center of the island, Lejre is worth more than a detour. It is supposed to have been the capital of a putative Iron Age kingdom known as the "Kingdom of Lejre". For this reason, we go there to visit the experimental and archaeological center which aims to show traditional and historical crafts through a reconstructed village dating back several centuries. Animals roam freely. You can chop wood, cook meat and paddle tree trunk canoes. Nearby, Ledreborg Castle, a baroque building completed in 1746, with its wooded park, is well worth a visit.
