A small wine-producing municipality of about a thousand inhabitants, San Vicente de la Sonsierra is famous for its medieval rite of penance during Holy Week, called Picaos, which is classified as a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest. Perched on a hill, the town offers a beautiful view of the vineyards of Rioja Alta. The Santa María la Mayor church, a Gothic-style building from the 16th century, forms a large fortified complex with the ruins of the wall and a 12th-century castle. About 1.5 km towards Peciña you can admire the hermitage of Santa María de La Piscina, a Romanesque building from the 12th century.
