Labastida is a large town with about 1,500 inhabitants. Its old baroque center, with stately homes and beautiful churches, is worth a visit: the Santo Cristo hermitage and the arches of Toloño and Larrazuria are noteworthy. After having been an important place of arms in the early Middle Ages, the town experienced an economic boom from the 12th to the 19th century, to which it owes its architecture. Nowadays, Labastida is famous for its chuleta al sarmiento (very tasty beef rib) and for its wine industry (Thabuca agency - www.thabuca.es - is a specialist in wine tourism in La Rioja alavesa).
