Petaluma is a large town with a population of over 57,000, where you can enjoy a relaxing break between vineyard visits. It was long known for its chicken-processing industry, which still forms part of its economic activity today. At one time, it was also known as the "egg capital of the world", hence nicknames such as "Chickaluma". But as you pass through, you'll notice above all the imposing brick mills and former grocery stores, usually built in the 19th century, which today house clothing boutiques, gift stores and antique galleries.
