70 km north of Brisbane, this sublime national park consists of a plain punctuated by volcanic dykes. The latter are in fact the chimneys of ancient volcanoes that were formed more than 25 million years ago. The region owes its name to Captain James Cook, who, once again, was inspired by his life to name the mountains: the shape of the mountains reminded him of the glassworks of his native Yorkshire. Mount Beerwah is the highest point in the park, at 556 m, and can be climbed, as can Mount Tibrogargan, at 364 m. There are many fascinating Aboriginal legends to discover in this park.
