The Blue Mountains form a chain in the hinterland of Sydney. Their name comes from the steam that constantly floats above the forests. This hazy "aura" is caused by the volatile oil of the many eucalyptus (gum trees) present in this territory.Today, most of this region consists of a national park lined with dense forests, sandstone canyons, and a wide network of trails for hikers of all levels (walking tracks). With 1 111 m altitude, Mount Victoria dominates the park. Located 60 km west of Sydney, the Blue Mountains are easily accessible. Only a few hours by train is enough. Classified as a World Heritage by UNESCO in 2000, this territory covers 208 000 ha. The Blue Mountains National Park is one of Australia's most popular parks. But its size and many trails make it easy to walk. Every year, nearly 3 million visitors venture there.
