One of the marked routes is the magnificent hike or ski tour in the heart of the Pallas-Ounastunturi National Park, Finland's third largest park with an area of 510 km². Between Pallas and Enontekiö, or the other way around, you cross a 55 km long mountain plateau whose respective peaks, Outakka (Ounastunturi) and Taivaskero (Pallastunturi), reach 723 m and 807 m. Halfway up, the conifers give way to stunted birch trees, whose red thickets set nature ablaze during the ruska, the Lappish autumn. As for the fauna, elks, bears, lynxes and wolves have taken up residence in the area. In summer, many migratory birds also nest in the park. Plan a minimum of two days' walking (camping is allowed), preferably in September, as mosquitoes are plentiful and rather voracious during the summer.
