About 40 km from Pakse. The town stretches over several kilometres on the edge of the Mekong, at the foot of two mountains: Kao Kao («mountain of the bun») and Kiou Phu («mountain of the faille»). So it is bordered on one side by the river and on the other by the rice fields. The population consists of Lao Loum and Lao Thin. There are still a few colonial wooden houses dating back to the early th century in good condition. You can see two maisons houses along the road, after the roundabout in the south, which still belong to the descendants of the royal family. You will have a good overview of the local architecture (mantling and decorations on carved and carved wood). On the other hand, temples - and a Catholic church - are on the Vat Phou Road. You will also see a great Buddha sitting in Sisoumang, towards the south. Champasak is a pleasant village where the time seems to be suspended, except for the annual Vat Phou festival, the famous Préangkorien Temple (Khmer civilization) just minutes away. The best time to get there is at the end of October, when the rainy season is over. Hotels and guesthouse often have their own restaurant, otherwise they are spread along the road. Champasak is a very pleasant stop.
