The Tenorio Volcano National Park covers 18,402 hectares and was created in April 1995. It is very rich in terms of the different ecosystems and the numerous species that it shelters. The flora is very varied and presents an evergreen forest (rain forest and cloud forest). There is a great variety of heliconias, bromeliads and orchids. Among the mammals, we can see pumas (however nocturnal and difficult to observe), tapirs (the largest mammal in Central America), agoutis, monkeys... On the sides of the park, the Celeste River, with its incredible colors, and its waterfall - 30 meters high - are the main attraction. The Misterios del Tenerio trail is 3.2 kilometers long and takes you through the wonders of the park: the Celeste River waterfall, the lagoon, the bubbling waters and the viewpoint. To get there, equip yourself with rubber boots or waterproof shoes, especially in the rainy season. To fully understand all the subtleties of the park and the Río Celeste, a guided tour with a naturalist guide is recommended, some are specialized in flora, others in insects, others are passionate about the felines that inhabit the area... A bucolic escapade with poetic touches, along the paths, where you will feel once again the crazy energy of the surrounding nature.
