Hattstatt developed on a Gallo-Roman site called Altevic, but its name is linked to the patronymic of the first owner of the site: Hatton. In the 12th century, the noble Hattstatt family took control of the village until 1587. The village has a number of beautiful sights, including the church of Sainte-Colombe. Its Baroque upper section dates from 1772. There's also the town hall, a superb Gothic double-staircase building (1554) and an old Renaissance well (1550) bearing the emblems of the Hattstatt family. The Grand Cru Hatschbourg promenade offers a beautiful panorama of the vineyards and Notre-Dame du Schauenberg.
