Capital of the department of Ica, the city is surrounded by high sand dunes and low and very arid mountains (rain is an almost unknown phenomenon here). The temperature, relatively high all year long (28°C on average in summer, 18°C in winter), is hardly mitigated by the waters of the river that fertilizes the valley and the small night breeze. If Pisco gives its name to the liquor, it is here that it is manufactured, Ica is thus the true wine capital of Peru, that it remains in spite of the economic crisis and the Chilean competition. It is not surprising that the main festival of Ica is the International Festival of the Vendimia, the harvest festival (in March), with cockfights and folkloric dances, although it has become more commercial. At this time, in some of the haciendas, the traditional pisada , which consists of crushing grapes with bare feet, can be seen. The Fiesta del Señor de Luren (in October) attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over the country to witness their faith. What makes Ica famous in the traveler's heart is in fact a small oasis, the Huacachina, located on the urban outskirts of the city
