Hapatoni is an ideal stopover to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Marquesan way of life. Its waterfront is quite surprising: a paved roadway lined with century-old tamanus trees, built under Queen Vaekehu II in the 19th century. The village also has a meae and a handicraft center with sandalwood wreaths for sale. The latter is one of the riches of the island, unfortunately plundered by Western sandalwood workers in the 19th century.
