The Commanderie des Templiers founded in Bure in 1133 was the very first in Burgundy, and gives its name to the present-day village. In 1958, Bure-les-Templiers became famous because the owner of the former Commanderie searched for the famous Templar treasure using dynamite, disfiguring a large part of the ancient medieval site. Today, all that remains of this great medieval complex is the chapel, where Templar tombs can still be seen. In addition to this historical heritage, the village is located in the Parc National de Forêts, France's 11th largest national park, where nature outings and soft mobility are in the spotlight.
