At the western end of the main island, Avarotu is a small and peaceful village with few tourist facilities. The diving is mainly done in the Tiputa pass, and the area of Ohotu, located between the airport and the pass, is more animated. By extension, we have concentrated in this guide the two localities to cover the main island.Rangiroa has two passes about 100 meters wide and 30 meters deep, at Avatoru and Tiputa. If they allow the passage of large luxury liners, they also offer memorable dives: the sites and the pelagic fauna that flock there attract divers from all over the world. A third pass, to the west of the atoll, is less frequented.Every year in September, the Farerei Haga brings life to Rangiroa for a week. Like a small Heiva, the festivities include traditional sports events (javelin and stone throwing, among others); the official jury travels specially from Tahiti! In the evening, on the public beach, there are also beautiful dance performances.
