North of Huahine Nui, the village of Maeva is particularly interesting for its concentration of marae, archaeological remains dating mainly from the 16th century and which still bear witness to the royal importance of the area at the time. The Fare Pote'e of Maeva, a meeting place for over 100 years and falling into ruins in 1972, has recently been reconstructed as a museum-cultural centre. Other points of interest in the village include the Protestant temple, the Vaipua spring, the spring of the Fauna Nui lake, and the fish traps, built in volcanic rocks by the inhabitants of yesteryear in the Fauna Nui channel. They are still in use today.
