Çorovoda/Çorovodë (pronounced "chorovoda"/"chorovodeu") has a population of around 4,000. It is the seat of the municipality of Skrapar (pop. 12,000). The town lies 51 km southeast of Berat via Poliçan (minibus connections). This town, with its original Bulgarian name (Черна вода/Cherna Voda, meaning "black water"), was a forbidden military zone during the Communist period, with important facilities including an air base. Today, it is the base for rafting trips in the magnificent Osum Gorge. There are hotels and restaurants and, nearby, the beautiful Kasabashi Bridge.
