The Bregaglia Valley, which stretches for about 20 km to the Italian border at Castagna, 1,100 m below, is an enchantment. Here you can go climbing on suitable granite spurs, hiking in the alpine pastures, enjoying the larch forest, which is gradually being replaced by the largest chestnut grove in Europe, the vineyards and the fruit trees. The historic Sentiero Storico trail, about 20 km long, between Majola and Castasegan on the border, is one of the most beautiful in Graubünden. It passes through the villages of Casaccia, Stampa, Soglio and Promontagno, where Rilkem and Giacometti lived.
