Situated in the heights of the canton of Neuchâtel, on the border with France, the commune of La Brévine lies behind the Crêt du Cervelet mountain. Nicknamed "the Siberia of Switzerland", it is here that the record cold of -30°C has been recorded in several parts of Switzerland at an altitude of just 1,000 m! This is due to its particular geographical situation. The topology of the region, a closed valley between 1,030 and 1,300 meters above sea level, causes a phenomenon of temperature inversion, which increases with altitude rather than decreasing.
