Situated between the Capo Caccia in the south and the white beaches of Stintino in the north, La Nurra is an area characterized by a surprising contrast between fertile plains and ancient mountains. Its indented coastline is much appreciated by walkers who reach isolated coves along paths through the maquis. The second largest plain in Sardinia, it is nowadays a land mainly devoted to the cultivation of vines. There are mines that have been exploited for a long time, such as the Argentiera mine, from which silver was extracted. Tombs dating back to the Palaeolithic period have also been discovered here, attesting to an ancient presence.
