Travel Guide Plaine Des Jarres

The Plain of Jars is a region of the province known for its fields of imposing ancient stone jars, more than 2,000 years old. It covers an area of about 1,000 km² and has an average altitude of 1,200 m.Most of the jars are 1 to 2.50 m high, 1 m in diameter and weigh from 500 kg to 6 tons. The largest can contain up to 10 men standing! Their origin does not cease to cause controversy within the scientific community. On the sites, the discovery of tools, bronze objects and ceramics indicates the presence of a very advanced civilization. Until now, nobody was able to identify it.
