This Unesco National Marine Park is located along the Alaskan coast east of Haines. On an expedition in 1794, Joseph Whidbey discovered a strait at the eastern end of the park. Composed of fabulous landscapes of glaciers flowing into the sea, mountains and fjords, it is the refuge of an important marine fauna including some protected species such as the humpback whale. Gustavus is the gateway to the park and is the starting point for most expeditions. The park has no road, it is accessible only by air or by boat. Those who take a cruise in this part of Alaska will pass by some of the wonders of the park.
