A mosaic of North Woods, countless rocky islands, coves, bays and the Great Lakes connected by narrow waterways, the old routes of French Canadian trappers called "voyageurs", from which the park takes its name. In the midst of all this water, where kayakers have a field day, is the Kabetogama Peninsula, which forms the core of the park and is accessible only by boat. The national park is spread over four main glacial lakes in a magnificent mineral setting. They are bordered by spectacular cliffs and bays. It is also the historic territory of the Objiwe Native American tribe
