During the Second World War, on the night of 20-21 December 1943, the Četnik (Serbian anti-communists who made a pact with the Germans and turned against their compatriots) massacred hundreds of women and children here, under the command of their leader Draža Mihailović. The entire village was devastated, with only five people miraculously escaping the killing. Today, more than 4,000 people live in the village of Vranić.
