Carrick-on-Shannon is the capital of County Leitrim. It's a charming little river port on the banks of the Shannon. You can hire a boat, or take a cruise along the estuary, to discover the beautiful rolling countryside. Many pubs dot the town, and the rather quiet atmosphere during the week comes to life on Saturday nights. For authentic Irish music, head to Cryans (on the quayside) from 10.30pm. The Dunnes bar (Main Street) and its pretty beer garden are also well worth a visit. And for dancing, the three floors of Murtagh's Bar will set the mood.
