Sung Phuc Tu Pagoda (Buddhist Blessing Cult), one of the country's oldest pagodas, stands on a wooded hillside, an eminence of land whose landform is reminiscent of a herd of buffalo drinking from a pond. A staircase of 239 steps leads to the entrance. 40 km west of Hanoi, the Tay Phuong pagoda is reached via the Lang-Hoa Lac road. After crossing the river, continue west to a second small stream. Just before it, turn right onto the small road 419 that leads north to the pagoda. By motorcycle, allow an hour's ride.
