Close to the capital, Es Castell is worth a visit for the beautiful port of Cales Fonts and its view of the island of Llatzeret, accessible by ferry from May to October. Inhabited by just over 7,000 people, the town was born following the construction of the Castle of Sant Felip, a fortification strategically placed at the entrance to the natural port of Maó. The red facade of the town hall, in front of which is the Menorca Military Museum, is worth seeing. Es Castell is home to a large number of restaurants and tapas bars, although they are quite touristy, leaving you spoilt for choice. Very well protected from the wind, the walk is pleasant.
