Approximately 2 500 kilometres north-west of Málaga, this small village of inhabitants extends its alleys lined with walls of limestone on the hillside, at the foot of a rocky escarpment where remains of an ancient fortress destroyed by Napoleon's troops. At some altitude of 450 metres, Ardales enjoys a significant freshness in summer, and it is perhaps this leniency of temperatures that has fostered the human occupation of the site. 5 km from the city centre is the cave of Ardales, with engravings dated Solutréen, more than 20 000 years before our age.
