Located between the Limpopo and Changane rivers, it rains more than elsewhere in Banhine National Park, which is renowned for its humid tropical climate. Protected since 1972, at present one does not go to Banhine for the density of its fauna, the majority of which disappeared during the war and remains rare, but for its landscapes, which are fabulously virgin. As predicted by various specialists, the park has been attached to the Greater Limpopo Transboundary Conservation Area. Thus, its large wetlands form a real source for all the surrounding arid regions, and 18 species of fish have been recorded there.
