Located in the western and southwestern regions of the country, 200 km from the city of Man between the Sassandra and Cavally rivers, the Taï National Park is a unique nature reserve of more than 300,000 hectares of dense rainforest. The park extends between the towns of Guiglo to the north, Soubré to the east, San Pedro to the south and Anamoué to the west. The Taï National Park is extended to the north by the N'zo Wildlife Reserve, the whole constituting the largest intact block of Guinean-type dense rainforest in West Africa. The exceptional biological and ecological interest of this site earned it its inclusion in the Unesco World Heritage List in 1982. Since 1978, it also belongs to the network of biosphere reserves and since 1991, the International Union for Conservation of Nature has included it on the list of the 11 most threatened world sites. Indeed, despite the presence of guard posts all around the park, it is the target of poaching, directed in particular against elephants for the ivory trade, and some planters clear the forest with the axe or by fire. The conservation of its biodiversity, its primary forest and its natural resources are paramount, in a country that has already lost nearly 50% of its forest. It has disappeared completely from certain regions or is so fragmented that it does not allow for the creation of a sanctuary for wild animal species. Primates, especially the famous chimpanzees, are particularly threatened. As well as the large predators that feed on the monkeys, notably the leopards.
