This national park is located in the vicinity of Graaff-Reinet. Its name, Camdeboo, comes from a Hottentot word meaning "green mountains". This is the Karoo in all its glory. The writer Eve Palmer wrote one of the most successful books in contemporary South African literature, Plains of Camdeboo, which is unfortunately not translated into French, but which you must read if the region "speaks" to you. It is truly a magical place, out of this world. Hikers come to walk from farm to farm in the hope of soaking up the Camdeboo mystery. The Camdeboo National Park fenced wildlife reserve is accessible via the R63.
