Close to Medellin and hosting the international airport, Rionegro is a green and dynamic city where many wealthy families live. It is cool because of the altitude (2,130 m). Known as the Cuna de la Libertad (Cradle of Liberty), Rionegro was one of the most important cities during the Independence era. It was also the place where the 1863 constitution was written, the Constitution of Rionegro. There is little tourist interest, but you can visit the Cathedral of San Nicolás el Magno, built in 1804. In the old sacristy there is a museum of religious art with beautiful paintings and sculptures of the School of Quito.
