Lake Aydar Kul was created following a spill from the Chardara reservoir in Kazakhstan in the 1970s. Today it contains more water than the Aral Sea and its level continues to rise. Its waters are full of fish and migratory birds are numerous. During the high season, yurt camps are set up to welcome tourists for a few days in the desert. It is indeed a very good starting point to make a meharee of some hours or some days. The sandy dunes dotted with bushes are populated by a very diverse fauna: wild goats, wolves, subliks, jackals ... And also monitor lizards whose average length reaches one meter. Be careful also with scorpions that hide under stones or in humid places in the shade of the sun, phalanxes, very poisonous spiders, and some cobras. The ideal time to go is not July when the temperature is well over 45°C and mosquitoes from all over the country come to visit.... Preferably go in autumn or spring, you may have the chance to see the desert in bloom. The short tulip and poppy season occurs just after the spring rains, in March or April.
