Situated on the banks of the Suriname River, Domburg can be a pleasant stopover before heading back to the capital. Located in the Wanica district, the village is shaded by immense trees and bordered by plantations. Founded in 1737 by P. Thourron, Domburg is a former cocoa, coffee and citrus plantation, and a charming village well worth a visit. In the 1930s, a 16-kilometer road was built to link the south of Paramaribo to Domburg, boosting industry at the time and making it an easy tourist destination today. Its population of around 5,500 is predominantly Javanese.
