This village by the river has a large palm oil factory; if you pass by, you will see that it does not smell very good. This oil is decried by environmentalists because of the deforestation it causes and its harmful effects on health as many doctors say (cardiovascular problems on the rise). However, it is an industry that thrives here because the oil sells well, as it is one of the cheapest on the market. It represents a very important part of the economy of the area. In the fields, you will see the workers who protect the palm trees from insects and other pests by spraying them with insecticide (another environmental problem). They also collect the fruits of the palm trees which, once pressed, give the famous palm oil. Of course, Parrita is not interesting for the palm oil, it would be rather the opposite... No, the main attraction of Parrita is its beautiful virgin beach, Playa Palo Seco, which is 5 kilometers away from the village, and its proximity to Playa Esterillos, which is unbeatable. Palo Seco offers a beautiful environment, surrounded by tropical vegetation, where you can enjoy discovering the mangroves or engaging in various water activities. If you are there in February, the National Festival of Las Mulas takes place every year and is unique in the country. On the program: horse and donkey races, concerts, tractor rally, handicraft market...
