At the gates of Turin, Venaria Reale, 8 kilometres northwest of the Piedmontese capital, is a bit like the Versailles of Turin. Everything here revolves around the fascinating royal residence of the Savoys, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and its vast gardens: it is one of the most visited museums in Italy. A short walk in the city centre, called the borgo antico, will allow you to admire several beautiful 17th century mansions, homes of the great Piedmontese families who wanted to be in the immediate vicinity of the court, among other rich heritage buildings.
